Lazy doctors

I’m fortunate enough to work with very specialized and competent doctors. Most of them have good leadership, good organization and most of all passion for their work. What’s unfortunate, is when one of these doctors completely loses his sense of commitment to the public during his journey. You only need that one doctor that doesn’t believe in the health care system anymore, or doesn’t feel empathy for other people’s needs, and you end up with someone who is lazy, indifferent and disconnected from the main priorities.
It’s one thing to work for a company in which we have no interest in the product that it’s manufacturing. Everyday we attend to our job in a routine motion just to get through our shift so we can get back home and finish the latest episode of Lost. But in the health care system it’s different. You have to CARE. Not everybody can and not everybody will continue to. If that’s the case then it’s time to move on. But move on to what when you’re a 50 year old doctor who has 2 car payments, 2 big mortgages, children in private schools, and an ex-wife who’s sucking half your pension. You end up going through the motion with no care in the world.
What use to be a talented doctor with ambition, is now a lazy MD with no inspiration. Instead of attending the people in need, he just hides in the coffee break room from his colleagues and the patients. I’ve only been a nurse for five years, so maybe I’m too young and just don’t understand the real deal. To provide good health service we have to work as a team. If everybody was jaded we’d have the crappiest health system in the world. We need to feed on each others’ enthusiasm and good will. And the head of that team is the doctor. With no leadership and no passion, you end up with a very frustrating and selfish day. Doctors need to realize that their actions do influence their peers’ attitudes. Good doctors make good nurses and vice versa.

    From the entry 'Lazy doctors'.

Good article. People in the medical profession in particular nurses and doctors have to CARE because they are dealing with people’s lives.

From my experience with nurses and doctors most of them only see patients as paychecks. Very few nurses and doctors actually care about people.

I guess like you said when you have mortgages, cars, and kids in private schools its easy to become consumed with your own life.
